Memorable and historical distance

“ Bataan Death March ( BDM) 102K”

When you heard of “Bataan”, maybe the very first things that will come to your mind was the heartbreaking “ Bataan Death March” history. It was the forcible transfer by the Imperial Japanese Army of the 76,000 American and Filipino prisoners of war after the three-month Battle of Bataan in the Philippines during the World War II. The wounded, sick and starved prisoners were ruthlessly maltreated and forced to march the 128km ( 80mi) under the heat of the sun. Filipino civilians along the path who offered food and water to the prisoners were also being killed by the Japanese Army. Bataan Death March resulted the death of thousands of prisoners. Some died for illness and starvation but most were murdered.

On the 06 of March 2010, I was given a chance to join the 102K distance running race in this same historical place. At first I felt nervous and excited especially the day before the race. I am a runner but I know myself and my limitations. Running is my passion but to run a 102km was not an option or program to my running goal… But, I then decided to take the challenge.
Bataan veteran runners
The race was about 18hrs to finish. Mass starts at Km 00 in Mariveles, Bataan around 11:30 pm. Every runner had their own preparation and technique in finishing the race. Some brought with them their ipod and other running gadgets while mine is the encouragement from the life of Paul as I reflect to his passion for faith. In Philippians 4:13 he said, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength”..I prayed for that strength and it sustained me until I finished the race.
To sustain our race,,,the secret is.....

I enjoyed the race because I took that opportunity to look back and reflect myself, my faith,  lovelife and most especially counting and thanking God of all His blessings especially the privilege to run a distance knowing that my body and legs are able to finish it. I am fulfilled..  Yes, through running I am able to worship and draw closer to the Lord Jesus Christ because of my dependency on Him in finishing the race safe and sound. I strongly believe that only by the  G R A C E of GOD that I can do my best. He is my coach and my strength in the field of sports/running and in any aspects of my life.
