Visioning while running….Almost
every day I went on road run or biking inside the perimeter of our place. It’s
been part of my daily routine to tour around our place with my rubber shoes or
my road bike alternately. I usually do these activities after my office time to
relax and plan for my future activities and commitments.
One afternoon while I was running
I happen to look back at my childhood years and traced on when and how did my
interest in sports started.
When I was still a farm boy in
Ilocos, my father used to ask me pulling a 100-yard of hose from point to point
in our farm land. I used to run in doing so until I became tired then walk all
thru out. It has been the most part of my childhood activities rather than
playing for I spent more time in helping my father in farming. During my grade
school, I was given a chance to play with baseball team competing within our
municipality but I was requested join in the track and field game as well
because the designated runner was disqualified to run. My high school years was
not much involved with sports because I studied in a private school which
doesn’t participate in inter-school
sport activities but we had inter- section sports fest every year. From my
grade to high school years I remember only using my bicycle in going to school
with an 8 kilometers distance from our house to downtown where my school is.
In the Academy, I was forced to
join the Track & Field Corps Squad, the peers of no sports except running.
I always bear in my mind that running is the basic of all sports. Our team
leader was very supportive to us; he always looks for every running opportunity
for the team in Baguio or Manila. My running routine started when I was still a
cadet, I love to run every after major exam, when facing emotional difficulties,
having a plan or project to think about, or just wanted to smell the cool &
fresh air of Baguio.
Aside from my recreation in the
field, I also love to spend my leisure time in a beach, or in a river. By then,
I found out that I’m not good in swimming. I tried all my best to cope up with
my friends who are a good swimmer and train by myself but sometimes with the
help of some of my friends coaching me in the swimming pool. At start, I
learned how to swim using the breast stroke and side stroke. Then, I improved
and learned free style (American Crawl) as well in preparation to join a
triathlon. I also started to balance my lifestyle, my diet or even my sleeping
habits. I bought a Mountain Bike as my start in biking phase but I learned that
mountain bike is not allowed to be use in some of the triathlon competitions
especially in international level or even in Ironman competition or
International Triathlon Union.

As I recall the first time I
joined triathlon competition was in Academy during the 15th PMA
Triathlon Challenge last Feb 2009, and then Subic International Triathlon the
following year and 70.3 Ironman last 2010 at 2011. During my personal fitness
time I used to practice triathlon but most of the time the duathlon (bike and
run).
