Sierra Madre 1/2 Marathon 2013

November 27, 2013 at 10:34am
Sierra Madre - one of the best roads in the Philippines I saw. A scenic road I ran, offering breathtaking views of the Sierra Madre Mountain range as well as Laguna Bay. It is a one way road all the way from Marikina to Infanta, Province of Quezon.
I got interested after seeing in Wikipedia about this place desciption. It says that "The Sierra Madre is the longest mountain range in the Philippines. The range starts in the north in the province of Cagayan and ends in the south in the province of Quezon, just east of Laguna de Bay. To the west as it reaches the province of Nueva Vizcaya to form the Caraballo Mountains, with which it connects with the Cordillera Central range."
At first I want to try mountain climbing, but when I browse over the internet I found out that there will be Sierra Madre 1/2 Marathon Family Run – November 16, 2013 at Tanay, Rizal http://www.pinoyfitness.com  . I copied the phone numbers of the race organizers from Borne Runner Sports.
I have running schedule every month as part of my routines then I have my classes too. I find that this race will be my major exam because of my training in Mizuno Run Academy - Level 2 Trail Running. It never failed me. The uphills and downhills I passed makes me high. Depending on the steepness of the hill, running uphill can be a challenge for runners of every level. How you run uphills during a race can make or break your day. I prepared on every run I registered. It made me excited, inspired and hoping to beat my personal record.
During a race the goal is to get to the start and finish in the quickest time possible. This isn't always true at the Elite Level. Sometimes where you place is more important than the overall time. For this reason, the way a person runs hills may, at times, be different then from a runner who is trying to get to the finish line as fast as possible. The general strategy during the race is to get up the hill as relaxed as possible while losing a minimum amount of time. This allows you to have more energy for the downhills. With this strategy you will not have to spend any time recovering from the up hill portion of the run. You will not only make up time but, by running down hill strong you will knock off additional time. However if you are in the lead pack it may be more important to stay with the leaders than to break contact and find yourself running alone. More importantly, at the later stages of the race if you are a strong runner, this may be the place where it is good to throw a few good surges to knock others out of their comfort zone, or to put someone that is struggling out of the race.
For stronger runners a easy way to quicken the tempo is to focus on driving the use of the arms. If you quicken the turnover rate of the arms, the turnover rate of the legs will naturally follow. This is an efficent way to throw in a surge without use of too much additional energy.
I researched and taught my self that I can do it - running vertical marathon :-) Sierra Madre 1/2 Marathon provided me that satisfaction. I want to come back with my friends who are also interested with the pleasant state that a runner might experience after a certain distance, accommodating organizers, warm welcome from the staff of hotel, cheerful marshals and unforgettable event.
