Family Fun Run 2012

“ I consider  my life worth nothing to me if  only I may finish the race and complete the task  the Lord Jesus has given me the task of  testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.      - Acts 20:24 -

The Asian Hope Christian Academy Inc (AHCA) had their annual family day. A time to fellowship with parents, teachers, and the students. The main purpose of the event is to develop camaraderie between parents, teachers and students and of course have fun.
Ptr Pabilonia, Director of AHCA,mentioned the desire of school to support and help the less privileged students of Sampaloc, Tanay, Rizal in sending them to school especially the children of Pastors who are given 100% free scholarship. Thus, the school has difficulty sustaining the scholarship program and  raising fund is one of the challenge of the school management. Upon hearing the situation of the school I offered my service as an organizer of running events which I believe is one option to raise funds for the scholars.

It is our company's commitment, the Borne Runner Sports Travel and Tours to assist organizations, communities, institutions and other groups in raising funds for community service in order to support such cause.
In sharing of the desire of both parties we came to an agreement of conducting a fun run for scholars, we call it the FAMILY FUN RUN 2012, the event will be jive or  part of the AHCA Family day. This event will be done annually as part of the family day promoting fitness, fun, and run for scholars.  Of course,in partnership of the 43rd Light Armor ( Maneuver) Company (43LAC) and the Borne Runners under the leadership of CPT ARIEL U CORTEZ (CAV) PA are the personnel/ man power behind the event.

The Family Fun Run 2012 was planned very well with all the staff and concern personnel to handle every single task. The event was also posted in Takbo.ph in order to promote outside Rizal province that resulted to more than 500 registered runners and guest runners from 2ID (Army). The event were participated by BJMP-CALABARZON, BFP-Tanay, PNP- Tanay, DEP ED- Upper Tanay, 2ID (Army), Moreh Academy- Taguig, Asian Hope Christian Academy, running groups from Antipolo, Cogeo, Binangonan, Cardona, Tanay, Calamba, individual running enthusiast.
On November 3, 2012, the Family Fun Run 2012 started by an opening prayer of Ptr Fotunato L Enso, Mt Olive Assembly of God, and the welcome remarks of the AHCA Director, Ptr Miguelito Pabilonia, and of course the most awaited gun start by the Race Director, CPT ARIEL U CORTEZ, with the 7Km runners first followed by 3Km runners. This fun run distinct from other running events that is the family category. Family category composed of father, mother, and at least one Child ranging from 13 years old below. The first complete family to cross the finish line was declared as the winner. The Family Fun Run 2012 promotes fitness, run for scholars, and most especially the unity of a family. RUN for FINISH LINE

Visioning while running….Almost every day I went on road run or biking inside the perimeter of our place. It’s been part of my daily routine to tour around our place with my rubber shoes or my road bike alternately. I usually do these activities after my office time to relax and plan for my future activities and commitments.
One afternoon while I was running I happen to look back at my childhood years and traced on when and how did my interest in sports started.

When I was still a farm boy in Ilocos, my father used to ask me pulling a 100-yard of hose from point to point in our farm land. I used to run in doing so until I became tired then walk all thru out. It has been the most part of my childhood activities rather than playing for I spent more time in helping my father in farming. During my grade school, I was given a chance to play with baseball team competing within our municipality but I was requested join in the track and field game as well because the designated runner was disqualified to run. My high school years was not much involved with sports because I studied in a private school which doesn’t  participate in inter-school sport activities but we had inter- section sports fest every year. From my grade to high school years I remember only using my bicycle in going to school with an 8 kilometers distance from our house to downtown where my school is.

In the Academy, I was forced to join the Track & Field Corps Squad, the peers of no sports except running. I always bear in my mind that running is the basic of all sports. Our team leader was very supportive to us; he always looks for every running opportunity for the team in Baguio or Manila. My running routine started when I was still a cadet, I love to run every after major exam, when facing emotional difficulties, having a plan or project to think about, or just wanted to smell the cool & fresh air of Baguio.

Aside from my recreation in the field, I also love to spend my leisure time in a beach, or in a river. By then, I found out that I’m not good in swimming. I tried all my best to cope up with my friends who are a good swimmer and train by myself but sometimes with the help of some of my friends coaching me in the swimming pool. At start, I learned how to swim using the breast stroke and side stroke. Then, I improved and learned free style (American Crawl) as well in preparation to join a triathlon. I also started to balance my lifestyle, my diet or even my sleeping habits. I bought a Mountain Bike as my start in biking phase but I learned that mountain bike is not allowed to be use in some of the triathlon competitions especially in international level or even in Ironman competition or International Triathlon Union.

As I recall the first time I joined triathlon competition was in Academy during the 15th PMA Triathlon Challenge last Feb 2009, and then Subic International Triathlon the following year and 70.3 Ironman last 2010 at 2011. During my personal fitness time I used to practice triathlon but most of the time the duathlon (bike and run).

Memorable and historical distance

“ Bataan Death March ( BDM) 102K”

When you heard of “Bataan”, maybe the very first things that will come to your mind was the heartbreaking “ Bataan Death March” history. It was the forcible transfer by the Imperial Japanese Army of the 76,000 American and Filipino prisoners of war after the three-month Battle of Bataan in the Philippines during the World War II. The wounded, sick and starved prisoners were ruthlessly maltreated and forced to march the 128km ( 80mi) under the heat of the sun. Filipino civilians along the path who offered food and water to the prisoners were also being killed by the Japanese Army. Bataan Death March resulted the death of thousands of prisoners. Some died for illness and starvation but most were murdered.

On the 06 of March 2010, I was given a chance to join the 102K distance running race in this same historical place. At first I felt nervous and excited especially the day before the race. I am a runner but I know myself and my limitations. Running is my passion but to run a 102km was not an option or program to my running goal… But, I then decided to take the challenge.
Bataan veteran runners
The race was about 18hrs to finish. Mass starts at Km 00 in Mariveles, Bataan around 11:30 pm. Every runner had their own preparation and technique in finishing the race. Some brought with them their ipod and other running gadgets while mine is the encouragement from the life of Paul as I reflect to his passion for faith. In Philippians 4:13 he said, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength”..I prayed for that strength and it sustained me until I finished the race.
To sustain our race,,,the secret is.....

I enjoyed the race because I took that opportunity to look back and reflect myself, my faith,  lovelife and most especially counting and thanking God of all His blessings especially the privilege to run a distance knowing that my body and legs are able to finish it. I am fulfilled..  Yes, through running I am able to worship and draw closer to the Lord Jesus Christ because of my dependency on Him in finishing the race safe and sound. I strongly believe that only by the  G R A C E of GOD that I can do my best. He is my coach and my strength in the field of sports/running and in any aspects of my life.

It’s more fun in running

Running is my passion. It provides me a feeling of empowerment and freedom that comes in knowing that my body is strong and my legs are capable. It builds my self confidence and self esteem by gaining better self image through running. Distance run are great for stress relief and tensions as it easily flies away as I run over the miles. The will and strength to run also strengthen my mind and give focus and determination in dealing with other areas of my life. It helps me defeat trial after trial, growing stronger and stronger. Running is part of my life; it’s a part of my existence.

Just last year, I finished the 1st 160K BDM, a first 100-Miles solo run in our country. On 14 August 2011 was my 2nd time to finish the 70.3 Ironman held in CWC, Camarines Sur… Joining these several local and world class running events gives me confidence to do more in running. From runner to a lead fun run organizer.

On 15 January 2012 our unit 43LAC came to an idea of organizing a fun run to generate funds for our CMO related activities particularly the Kawal at Kabataan para sa Kalikasan (KKK) a tree nurturing project with elementary schools in our area of operations. This project was introduced by the 4LAB Battalion Commander, LTC THOMAS R SEDANO CAV (GSC) PA, this project will last for three (3) years to go away with the notion “plant and forget”. A Memorandum of Agreement signed between the school and 4LAB to insure commitment before the tree planting starts.

The objective of this fun run is to promote physical fitness, environmental awareness to all stake holders in Tanay. The fun run was sponsored by Jolibee- Tanay and supported by Seven hundred eighty one (781) participants from Tanay LGUs, NGOs, Tanay PNP/ BJMP and Tanay Fire Marshall, Sampaloc Elementary School, Camp Capinpin Elementary School, Asian Hope Christian Academy, and other students coming from different schools in Brgy Sampaloc. The most number of participants came from 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division. The activity was started with a simple program with Rev Fortunato L Enso of Mount Olive, Assembly of God lead the opening prayer followed by the messages of the following invited guests; Barangay Captain Alvin E Belza, Vice Mayor of Tanay Hon. Jimmy Vista, LTC SEDANO JR CAV (GSC) PA, CO 4LAB, BGEN NESTOR ANOƑUEVO, ADC, 2ID.
Though it was the my first time together with the personnel of 43LAC unit to conduct this kind of CMO activity, yet it was successfully achieved. Every personnel are morally high for the respect earned and acceptance shown to them by the participants of the said activity.  The officers and personnel of 43LAC again built their confidence in conducting such activity even with their limited resources in the company headquarters.
Starting a running program is far simpler than most people believe, but the WILL to run more, DRIVES me to do more…

1st Tamarind Run 2012

After our first organized run in support to our Kawal at Kabataan para sa Kalikasan, a tree nurturing project of 4LAB which was the KKK Fun Run last 03 March 2012, our friends, fellow runners, and other running enthusiast in Tanay had requested for another fun run. On one of our launching of KKK project here in Barangay Sampaloc, Tanay, Rizal the barangay chairman Hon Alvin Belza expressed his desire to plant Sampaloc/ Tamarind trees in their barangay in order for the place to speak for itself as Barangay Sampaloc as they always shouted “WOW SAMPALOC”. As a friend and fellow public servant I offered my help and my expertise as well to conduct fund raising activity which is the Fun Run.
On 16 March 2012, I was invited to their barangay council session and presented my proposal for the fun run in generating funds for Tamarind/ Sampaloc tree planting. All of the barangay officials agree to conduct fun run, they also requested that it will be an opening activity on their foundation day on 01 May 2012. Registration fee for every runner was two hundred pesos (P200) to cover expenses in procuring t-shirts, race kits, medals, finisher’s certificate, Jolibee yumburger and tetra pack juice. With all the expenses stated proceeds for every runner is ten pesos (P10) as estimated to procure one (1) tamarind seedling.
After weeks of planning, conceptualizing all the designs, forming a committee, promotions to the entire stakeholder in the community was started. We encouraged the business sector in Tanay to sponsor this kind of barangay project and take part for our holistic approach involving the constituents. Moreover, the stakeholders were coordinated from time to time.
On the night before our fun run we make it sure all preparations, equipment, requirements are all ready for the next day. I conducted briefing to all committed personnel to ensure our readiness. At 010400H May 2012 with all the personnel committed to facilitate the Tamarind run onboard civilian vehicle and KM450 bound for Covered Court Barangay Sampaloc Tanay Rizal and installed registration/ information committee. We enthusiastically opened the activity .
At 0500H, the registration started coming from different delegates, schools, and LGU’s of Barangay Sampaloc Tanay, Rizal to participate in the ‘Tamarind Run’ 2012. The 2ID spearheaded by LTC BENEDICTO S MANQUIQUIS (AGS) PA OG7   2ID, PA had a most number of participants of One Hundred Sixty Five (165) personnel to include the officers of post and tenant units. The total number of registered participants was about Six Hundred (600).
At 0530H the activity started with a simple program with Pastor Fortunato L Enso of Assembly of God who lead the opening prayer followed by the messages of the following invited guests Barangay Captain Alvin E Belza, of said barangay, LTC BENEDICTO S MANQUIQUIS (AGS) PA OG7,2ID, PA, Hon Vice Mayor of Tanay Jimmy Bista.
At 0600H, we conducted race route briefing to approximately 650 runners, 600 of them were registered runners in all categories both male and female.
At 07450H, We awarded the Medals to the champions, first runners and distributed the certificates of finisher to the participants with the invited guests .Also we distributed the Jolibee yum burger snacks and drinks.
The activities were successful because all of the participants and partners committed in full capacity and all their efforts.
The event ended with the seven (7) kilometers run with total runners of two hundred ten (210) and in three (3) kilometers with three hundred ninety (390) runners with a total of six hundred (600) runners.

It's biking time

Yesterday afternoon after the flag retreat I decided to have a short distance cycling sessions inside CCTR. Unknowingly, the commander 2ID will be having his MTB biking inside post also but i was not able to catch them nor join with them. After a few minutes of rounds inside post I notice that they were done and having water point near his quarters. I continue my session and other bikers who joined the commander joined with me afterwards. We went out together and have a fellowship biking and return after 7Kms of biking by that time the dark is going to cover our way..27Kms was reflected in  my ODO meter's bike. To complete my day i decided to run at least 3Kms inside post. Luckily CCTR is very safe to train and play.
Early this morning, i went for a solo biking inside post to enjoy the new day and a cool morning. Unknowingly I was able to cover 20Kms inside CCTR...

This coming weeks we will be having a cycling sessions to encourage all bikers inside post and form a team in the future.

Invitation for Tamarind Run

This is a joint project of 43LAC and Brgy Sampaloc, Tanay, Rizal Council to generate funds to procure seedlings for Tamarind tree planting
